Male Bereavement Support

As a charity we recognise that both parents are grieving the loss of a much loved baby and all our services are available to both parents.

Male Bereavement Support

We have recently been awarded a grant from the Big Lottery and are currently exploring ways to best support bereaved dads. Many men report that initially their main concern is their partner and may struggle to ask for support themselves. As a charity we recognise that both parents are grieving the loss of a much loved baby and all our services are available to both parents.

Please contact Cecilia or call the office on 0131 622 6263 if you would like support yourself.

Our Team

“In the beginning, I was focused on all the formalities such as registering birth/death, arranging the funeral and so on but as the weeks passed by, again I felt an emptiness. I felt that I needed to escape so I decided that I would go out for a run. It helped me to process my thoughts and once I had completed my first 5k without stopping, I felt a real sense of achievement. When I first signed up for the Edinburgh Half Marathon it was for me and to give me something to focus but as the months have passed by I think it has changed to making Jenna’s life count. Although she was only with us for one day, she fought so hard to stay alive. She fought long enough so that we could spend time with her and so she could meet her big sister, Jessica. I run because my daughter was here and I want her to be proud of me and to see that we have turned this tragedy into something positive. I run because every day I see my wife, Shelley’s strength in dealing with Jenna’s passing and the help and understanding she gets from SANDS Lothians.”
